If you are thinking about entering the trades, but do not meet the math requirements or need a refresher, this course is for you. This fast-paced, 6-week online course covers a wide range of math concepts with an innovative mix of self-directed online learning and hands-on activities. An instructor will be available to assist you throughout the course. Students who pass this course (70%) will receive a letter from the Dean of Trades at NLC indicating that they have met the math requirements for entry into a Foundational Trades course at NLC.
Course Description: This is a rigorous, accelerated math course that was jointly developed by the trades and academic sides of Northern Lights College. It covers all the concepts in the math proficiency exam with a focus on trades applications and will prepare students for entry into a foundations trade program. This course starts with elementary-school level math and works up to pre-calculus topics. Hands-on activities are used throughout to demonstrate the concepts, including crafting a building to scale.
