Environmental Training Program

Welcome to BC Hydro’s Indigenous Employment & Training Environmental Training Program in partnership with Northern Lights College.

This course was designed to assist participants in securing the technical skills and safety certifications needed to apply for positions in the ​environmental monitoring field. This program is being offered at no cost to the participant.

This two-week course will consist of the following learning format:
▪Virtual face-to-face workshops
▪Independent online learning
▪Face-to-face in class training

​THE APPLICATION PROCESS


Applications accepted until June 3, 2021

Your first step is:  Complete the Program Interest Form - Click HERE for the Program Interest Form​

Then NLC will email you within 3 business days with the Registration Form to complete.

Please reply to the email with:
  • Completed Registration Form
  • Photo of your driver's license
  • Photo of a current OFA Level 1 ticket (if applicable)
  • Photo of a current Transportation Endorsement ticket (if applicable)

Once this is complete and we receive all of the required items, NLC will send you an email with the Admissions Interview Survey.  Click on the link found in the mail that will take you to the Admissions Interview Survey, complete and submit the survey.  After submitting the survey your application process will be complete then all you have to do is wait for a final email from NLC about your admission status.

The first date that applicants will learn about admission status will be June 2nd to let you know if you have been accepted into the program or if you have been placed on the waitlist.


PROGRAM SCHEDULE FOR ADMITTED PARTICIPANTS

June 14-17th
Online courses including:
  • WHMIS
  • Wilderness & Bear Aware
  • Helicopter Safety Awareness
  • Resume Development
  • Success in the Workplace
 
June 18 - 26th 
In class training at the Fort St. John campus.  This will require travel to Fort St. John and will be based at the Microtel Hotel and the NLC campus.  Hotel expenses and meals will be included.  The courses will include:
  • Electrofishing Certification
  • Swiftwater Rescue Certification
  • Small Non-Pleasure Vessel Basic Safety 
  • Workplace Essential Skills
  • Occupational First Aid - Level 1
  • Transportation Endorsement
